Firstly battery indicators are not precisely accurate so having power available when indicator shows none, is not uncommon with anything using LI-Polymer batteries... secondly, if you do manage to run your battery as flat as possible then you will damage the battery - the run as flat as possible ideas are for NiCad batteries not Li based ones...
