On my other thread, we (me and Joerg_Mosthaf) tried the direct route: images compiled directly into a Mobi ebook. Result: Blank page after each image.

Take a look at that thread, to check out the experiment. (Note, I've deleted the sample files in there, only the M2E link is working now)
