There's a revolution underway; We're slowly moving away from a mass production culture to a DIY culture as it becomes easier and cheaper for people to do things at home that would have taken a huge infrastructure before.

And it's not just 3D printers and manufactured products; there's also a growing biohacker movement (thanks to cheap DIY DNA replicating equipment) and even the ease of self-publishing can be seen as an example of this.
