Calibre - slow to do everything
Just started trying to use Calibre so I have a lot of beginners questions but I'm searching these forusm first before I start asking. I'm using 0.8.39 - it took 97mins to convert a 211 page PDF file to EPUB and over 9mins to read the list of 9 books form the main memory and the 118 books on the SD card - does that seem slow?
As others have reported PDF's can present a lot of problems. What is the best way to convert PDF's using Calibre so that they render properly on the Sony? In my first attempt to convert PDF to EPUB I didn't attempt to change anything because I have no idea what I should change or what format to convert to.
The EPUB file I created using Calibre that is now on the reader seems to consist of an interleaved mix of:-
1) a page that look like a scanned image of a text page {that has been and through an optical character recognition process (i.e. 90% correct characters but many incorrect ones) } and
2) a page contaiing the raw scanned image of the same page
each subsequent page seems to follow this same pattern - badly scanned text on one page and the raw scanned image on the next.
Is there a step by step guide on what to do anywhere? Unfortunately I have loads of PDF's (I read a lot of non-fiction; educational texts - maths, physics, astronomy, science, environment, history, etc)
Thanks.
Neil
