Am encouraged to read that there are a number of less sexy, though no less useful uses for e-inki displays. The "point of sale" devices sound like they could generate a decent amount of revenue for PVI, and thus help finance the new advances (like a 12"x20" full-colour coffee-table E-book. Oh! How Sweet!). As exciting as e-books are, and they do seem capable of finally 'tipping' some time soon, there is probably even more money in commercial/industrial applications.
