Surprises me - surely the home's staff would need a wifi connection? Even if it meant her going down every so often to the office, I'm sure there would be a way round it.

Well, no, not if the library is going to be a main source of books - in that case, the Kindle is out, and the T1 or the Kobo would be a better choice. The OP's friend can still buy books from Amazon (UK) with these.

Yes, almost certainly - to buy books in the UK, you really only have the choice of the Kindle, Kobo or T1, and if you go for the Kindle, you can't access the library, so it depends what's the most important to your friend. If she mainly buys books, then a Kindle might be the best choice, but if she uses the library a lot (and I suspect, being bed-bound, she probably does), then the Kobo or T1 might be better.
