I particularly like the one with Patrick Steward as Scrooge. As he was a classical theatre performer before he turned to TV (he played many roles in Shakespeare performances, which he can also be seen doing in Star Trek TNG occasionally), he is perfectly cut out to play Scrooge. I'm a Patrick Steward fan since Star Trek... Pity the guy is over 70 already and won't be making too many movies anymore.

I just realised I wasn't clear when I said seeing the films had made me think the book might be a pointless read...what I meant was I enjoyed the films, but don't like to read a book after a film, when I already know all the story etc
But somehow reading A Christmas Carol was like reading a story I'd never known before....must be all the detail in the writing...
I watched the Patrick Stewart Scrooge just last Christmas and really enjoyed it. Yes, he is a fine actor, I liked him in Star Trek too. His Scrooge gave a feeling of reserved power to the character...
Also I've seen the old black and white film with Alaister Sim as Scrooge....I think I've seen Albert Finney do it too...
Probably seen it on tv every year I can remember.
Mr Stewart might make a few more film yet...saw him interviewed the other day on TV and he still looks to be going strong!
