Your external card is full? I think I would pick up another bigger one, copy all files on your small one to a folder on your PC, then unmount and install a bigger one in your PC. Then copy contents of the folder onto your new card. that should give you plenty of room without losing any of your data on your existing external card, Just a thought.
That way you will have a backup (on your PC) should anything go wrong and you need to rebuild your card.
Mileage may vary.
