Glad to hear the problem is solved at least. Sony should probably add a warning to the updater saying the battery has to be charged 100% first.

I'm curious as to why the firmware update doesn't avoid overwriting files like batterystats.bin, if it can cause such problems. I'm assuming here that the cause of the problem is that the existing file is overwritten by one in the update, which is based on a full battery - in effect causing the reader to assume that the current battery level is 100%. But perhaps the firmware update just rewrites the entire partition, so individual files can't be excluded. Oh well. At least I'll know what to look out for if and when I update, thanks to those who have gone before
