It is possible to refresh only the clock part of the screen (partial refresh). However, there is no built-in 'trigger' to determine when another minute has gone by. So in order to have the clock update by itself, we would have to have an extra timer running in the background, all the time. Combined with all the partial refreshes, that would cause too much battery drain, I fear.
