I didn't wait for my reader to be parsimonious.
Let's face it, you paid for that reader, You get the convenience of carrying a library around almost where ever you go, and (in many cases) you cac download a new book in seconds.
But I want my money's worth from my gadgets. When I buy (bought) a dead-tree book, all I needed in addition was a place to read it (coffee/mocha, fireplace and a kitty optional). I paid a price for my Nook, and I love it, but one of the features is that ebooks are generally less expensive than printer matter.
I balk at e-books that cost the same as their paperback equivalents, and refuse to buy the rare ones that actually cost more than the printer books. That's not being cheap IMO, that's using money wisely.
As far as being parsimonious, I would point out that I am reading more than I was before I got my reader, and that translates to purchasing more books, and more money spent.
