Perhaps you need to install Mobipocket Reader (or Kindle 4 PC) to view the published content the way you'd want to? It sounds like what you're getting is some kind of emulator viewer to show what it would look like on a PDA or something.



I don't know what kind of format the stuff you have is starting out in, but maybe it'd be easier to use Open Office (writer) and install the writer2epub plugin which converts a file to ePub with a click. The ePub can easily be converted to Mobi in Calibre with a couple of clicks.
