Morse is described as a "lightly-built, dark-haired man" and is several years younger than Sergeant Lewis. He drives a Lancia - this transformed into the familiar Mk 2 Jaguar in the books written after the TV series became popular!
The actual story is excellent, concerning the murder of a girl found dead in a pub carpark. The story is well-told; the resolution has a "sting in the tail" which took me by surprise.
I can't recommend this highly enough. It's a truly excellent book. It's a pity that Colin Dexter wrote so few books compared to many of his fellow crime-writers; there are 13 Morse novels, plus a collection of short stories. All very well worth reading.
