Do you want a monochrome eInk reader or is a color e-reader going to suit?
An alternative, although I've not yet tried it (waiting for my Nook Simple Touch to arrive) is to get a Nook Simple Touch or Nook Color, root it, and install an Android PDF reader such as ezPDF or Nook PDF. I've not confirmed how well these behave on eInk, but I read a few comments here and there indicating it's a great improvement for viewing PDFs on the Nook. Look into it, and it might turn up some interesting options.
