The Kindle 4 (Non Touch) won't deal any better with PDFs than any other 6" Reader. The Touch Version still has no option to read in landscape mode last I heard, so that's even worse.
If you really want to read PDFs that don't convert well to epub/mobi you either need one of the big e-ink reader (9,7"), Pocketbook 903/912 Boox M92, Kindle DX or the new Jetbook Color come to mind, or a 7" or 10" tablet.
