I used them as an example due to there attempt to control the content available to users of the iPhone, plus they have made the full journey from benevolent rebel to authoritarian establishment within the last twenty five years.
Frankly I wouldn't want any software as an interface for my brain functions nor would I want to put my brain the net... Although for sci-fi trope it leads to many different and social commentary story lines.
