At present, I seem to have each of my books listed once per format. Since I've been using Calibre, this has been how my books have been displayed, however, I recently saw some screenshots of the program where each book was only listed once and the formats it was available in were listed in the description pane on the right. This seems to be a much more sensible way of showing the available formats but I'm just not sure how to get this method of display.
Can anyone please tell me how to do it?

The
normal way is: Calibre keeps all all formats of a book in one Record (a line item). That is why they show in the Book Details pane.
This is normally accomplished by having Calibre Merge books of the same title (controlled by the Adding Books preference)
If you have separate records for each format, you want to
Merge them.
(I just noted that the Main Help page is weak on the Merge function). A description must have been on the 'New Features' page a long time ago.)
Select the Destination Record FIRST. Hold down the
Control Key and select the records that are
to be Combined into the first record. Tap the 'M' key.
Note, I chose the word
combined, Metadata will be a composite of the originals. Blank fields will get populated with any value from the sources. Other fields get ? (I have not seen a single pattern when doing a many into one).
Careful: You can merge a Wrong book

. AFAIK Calibre will not stop you.
