I've only bought a few books with DRM, for which I use the Sony software.
For everything else, I mount the Reader like a thumb drive and copy the EPUB files to it. When it starts up, it searches for new books and adds them to the list.
Calibre is good, but if I'm not converting something, it just seems like an unneeded extra step.
