You should have software to realign the scans for you afterwards. It's exactly the kind of thing computers are good at. Then you can spend less time and effort trying to hold the book exactly right for each scan.

I use unpaper for that sort of thing on my Linux box. I'm sure there's something similar for Windows and Macs.
