Questions about Pulse

I recently started exploring the Pulse feature for the first time and am quite impressed. It's a clever feature with a lot of potential. However, one thing that has me a little confused is that fact that when I open the Pulse display for certain books, I am listed as one of the current readers - and yet in others I am told that no one is currently reading that book, even though, obviously, I am! Anyone got an explanation for that? Is it a bug, a temporary server glitch or something else?
Also, is the Pulse feature specific to certain books, or universally available (on Kobo-bought books)? I notice the Pulse icon is greyed out in some titles and wasn't sure of the significance of that.
