Apparently Muhammad told the story:
An old woman was not popular. She'd been quite a social asset to the community once. After her husband died, she became bitter, and most people at the time Muhammed told the story knew her as "less than pleasant". Then she died.
Much to everyone's surprise, at her funeral, the Prophet proclaimed that the old bitch was going to Paradise!
How? Why?
"She had done much good in her early life, and much that was spiteful and selfish in her later years," God's Messenger explained. "But there is a stray cat in her neighborhood, and she has always been putting out food and water for it. This kindness has shifted the balance for her. Allaah has seen her true heart."
Moral: pay attention to the wee furry ones!
