I have a rant, sort of.
My 9 year old son has to write a story about someone he admires and he chose me Actually I was his third choice, but I won't get into that.
A part of his story needs to include a happy, important or interesting event that happened to me while I was a child. Well, the problem is that I have spent my entire adulthood trying to forget my childhood so I'm pretty limited in what story to give him. I did come up with one important event though. Sometime between 1990-1992 I presented Lincoln Alexander with some award at the hospital that I practically lived in when I was a kid. If you're curious about who he is look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Alexander. Of course now I can't find anything on the internet that has any information on what I gave him or when it happened, and the hospital closed in 1997. I have it on video somewhere and I know it was on the news, but can't find that either. So basically I have to either give my son half a story or steal someone elses happy, interesting, important story and put my name on it.

That sounds like a whole story to me. Include why Lincoln Alexander matters, include where the hospital was, why you remember the occasion (was it meeting a famous person? was it dressing up? was it carrying the award? was it being WELL at that hospital?) and perhaps include why the hospital closed. Maybe some shots of it now empty. (Try BING for arial shots). You could build a story out of this!
Maybe include how you feel about the occasion today. The fact that nobody remembers it, or mentions it on the web. And that the place is closed.
