For my EE I use a 32 GB class 4 SDHC and it does everything I need. I also have several 4 and 8 GB cards in class 4 and 10 that I use depending on the job in hand.
As far as I know the PE micro-SD cards can be anything from class 4 to 10 as well.
The higher classes are not necessary in either the EE or PE - there are constraints of processor and components, but they should work, just not at their full speed potential. If you already have one that you don't have a use for, then there is no reason not to use it.
