Can this be does easily, or will it be necessary to manually alter every library individually in order to reflect these changes?

The file format is irrelevant since this is a catalog configuration issue and not dependent on any individual file configuration.
Those are called Libraries.
Catalog is a special book (see the arrow on the conversions menu) created from the Library Metadata.

When you create a Library, there is an option to create using the current one as a model.

You should be able to recover in most cases:all field names in old_wrong one must exist, EXACTLY. in New_one or they will be lost

From the Library of the style you want them to be:
Create Library: Create empty Library : tick Use Existing Structure

ow switch to the Old Bad Library .
Select books: right-click: Copy to Library (New Library)

Verify thing are swell
Repeat You can delete the old Library (via the OS, so be careful) when you are happy.

Then you can use the Library tool to rename the New Library as desired.
