I am a Sony & Kindle user. There are many options for apps which will read EPUB's (including ones that have DRM) that you can sideload to the Fire. Of the apps that others have mentioned, I use Aldiko. Also the Sony and Kobo bookstores have Android apps that you can sideload, which makes it very convenient to access your past purchases. Lastly, I also use calibre to convert non-DRM'ed ebooks from EPUB to MOBI. In summary you have many options. The hard part is deciding which alternative reading app that you like best.
