The buttons go to the Sony store because it is telling you that you need to register your ereader. Once you are registered, then the buttons will work properly. When you register for the Sony store, it is also authorizing your ereader for use with Adobe DRM'ed books. If your ereader were not registered, then you would not be able to use the Public Library button anyway to download books because it wouldn't be able to read the DRM. For example, the first time you use the Public Library button it searches for your local Overdrive library and then sets it as a default.
