I have a number of genre-based collections, though some have mutated into curious combos (like "Travel and Food") as I try to find places to shoehorn in new books.
I've got all Active content sorted in its own collection. Also there's a "Transferred" collection that's a general import bin of magazine articles, personal documents, and other things that aren't quite books, don't have anyplace else to go, and/or need to have their formatting fixed at some point.
It amounts to almost three full screens of categories...and the system worked okay for awhile, but I'm thinking on giving it up. For one thing, even with Calibre it can be a chore to manage (doesn't help that I'm too OCD for my own good sometimes). For another, my Kindle (K3) is running painfully, horribly slow these days. As in: hit "Home" key, wait 30 seconds to get there; hit "Next Page", wait 10 seconds to get there; select desired Collection, wait 15 seconds...
I've probably got two to three hundred books on the thing at the moment. The device still has 2/3 of its memory free; but I'm suspecting that Amazon never really expected you to be able to come anywhere near filling the thing with books without it coming to a crawl. My new plan is to start over with Reset to Factory Settings, and then be conservative about how many books to have loaded on my Kindle from my Calibre and Amazon libraries at any one time.
I'll have to be careful about it, though...I've put way too many hours into Triple Town when I'm done reading for the day, and I couldn't bear to lose my high scores!
