You're smart to be thinking of worst-case scenarios. Additionally, Time Machine only gives you one backup. The rule is to have three copies of all important data, which means an additional drive of like capacity or greater, which means either a second hard drive you connect directly on occasion, a NAS box or a network or cloud backup.

If I hadn't chosen a different solution, I'd opt for a backup to my own or a really trustworthy friend's server as opposed to a third-party cloud. There's also the question of security and cloud-based backups. I don't even like the idea of my smartphone backing up to a cloud. Most people I know back up to their SSDs and clone those for security reasons.
