If they're all running the same software, then I would expect them to look the same. Otherwise it's a hardware difference. Notably I read the Nook screen was improved with a software upgrade, but the screens improved as one.

If you haven't already done so, might I suggest you install bold fonts to improve clarity. I recently read about a font called Amasis on these forums that would do the trick.
