Rant, part 3:
The man who was keeping my nephew's Doberman puppy until he can get his knee surgery scheduled fell down his own steps last night and broke his leg. Now HE is in the hospital awaiting surgery.

We're going into dog transport mode here shortly. And anybody planning a trip here might want to rethink it. We seem to be huddled under a little black cloud of bad luck here.
