There's no smoke without fire. A lot of kindle owners are are noting a noticeable difference in the quality of e-ink screens between identical or similar Kindle models. I have no doubt they are right. Why some people are so ardently denying it is there own business.
The same controversy does not exist to the same level with other devices. What I suspect has happened is that Amazon is paying less for their screens by not insisting on the highest quality control standards. That is why people are seeing such a wide variety in quality. There are excellent and not so excellent screens in the same batch. I guess Amazon figures that most people won't notice the difference, or if they do, they won't question it.
Of course that's speculation, but it explains what people are reporting. In any case, the poorest grade pearl screen is probably more than adequate to read on. But for the connoisseur, it could be annoying.
