Just finished:
The Woman in Black by Susan Hill: A very quick read at 127 pages, but unfortunately it's not anywhere near as scary as the trailer for the forthcoming movie adaptation makes it seem. It follows the conventions and structure of a Victorian era horror novel. Which means it's written entirely in first-person, with long periods of descriptive or introspective narration, and a supernatural plot device (in this case a ghost) which makes very few appearances. I also saw the ending coming a mile away. Not that Victorian era horror novels are bad, but for a book written in 1983 I expected more scares.
