I read this quite recently, I really liked it and thought some of the characters were endearing, although I'm by no means a fantasy buff!
For my part, I have just finished
The Thirty-Nine Steps by John Buchan. Quite fun and had a nice pace, but the plot was so implausible that it detracted from the immersion a little. Next up is
The Redbreast by Jo Nesbo (an Xmas freebie from iTunes) about which I know very little.
