Copyright laws
have stopped incidents of copyright infringement. They are not perfect, nor have they caught everyone; but that's a fault of enforcement, not of the laws themselves. Again, lack of perfection is not a valid reason to junk a law; it's a reason to fix the law and better enforce it.
