I fully agree. It would be fantastic to be able to use the reader in the same way that we use a paper notebook: without worrying about its safety during transport.

By the way, after bringing my Asus DR-900 (9", Sipix) with me every day in my bag for a full year without it suffering any harm, I decided to leave the bomb-proof -but very heavy and bulky- case at home. I only took the precaution to prepare a 5mm thick sheet of plexiglass (slightly larger than the reader) and put it in another compartment of my bag, adjacent to the screen, so that the latter will not be accidentally punctured. In comparison to the case, the plexiglass sheet is lighter and -more importantly- doesn't have to be supported by my hands when reading.
I am now reaching two months of on-the-move use of the "naked" device without incidents. I am starting to feel confident that even a 12" reader, with a bit of care, could survive such type of arrangement. ...which brings the question: are they really *so* fragile? Maybe mine is not a typical experience.
