I get that problem every so often. It actually means that for some reason the download failed - not that the file you're trying to download has actually completely downloaded and that it's unplayable.

Try downloading again - if need be try restarting the iPod. If all else fails download to your main computer and then load via iTunes.

That's just speculation. It is true that the iPod touch is overdue a speedbump - I have read (again speculation but plausible) that this is due to the faster processors all being earmarked for the iPhone.
