Maybe they could tweak it to make it more intuitive for some users, but there's nothing inherently wrong with the scrolling.

Can you explain exactly what you are doing? Maybe post a screen capture?
When I attempt to swipe the entire length of the screen, it 'scrolls' before my swipe is even half way, and I'm not lifting my finger at all. And the resulting scroll is exactly the same as when I do a short swipe (only about 2/3 page).
I'm all for having more granular scrolling (both partial and full) but without 'full' page scrolling it just seems broken.
Shown are 3 screen captures:
1 - starting position
2 - swipe starting at bottom (next to 'The Mugger') and going all the way to the top
3 - swipe starting at bottom (same start location) and going up about an inch
As you can see the result of 2 and 3 are the same. The text my finger was next to has moved up only to about 2/3 of the way to the top, not to the top.
