I got my iPad the day they became available almost 2 years ago and have read 40-ish novels since. Love it!
But, I don't hold it to read. I have a cover that doubles as a stand. That means no reading while reclined in a deck chair on the cruise, but the glare pretty much rules that out anyway. It's not as versatile as a dead tree book, but in the right setting it is excellent.
