Can you read the authorized epub file in calibre with its reader? If so, then the problem isn't with Overdrive, it's with your device. Perhaps someone with a Sony Reader can give some insights, but I'm guessing that authorizing the book using ADE doesn't work for Sony Readers and you have to process it using the Sony software.
