I know there's a general perception that ereaders whether Kindle or otherwise, are 'not for kids' or perhaps, kids are not into them, but this is not universally the case, going by counter-retorts / replies on the subject.
So, if your kids do indeed have an ereader of any sort, then do encourage them to read Julia Golding's Cat Royal series. Juniors / younger teen lads will fall in love with Cat, mums and grans will smile as they look back on their own mischievous ways, and young girls, indeed everyone else will just revel in the great stories.
Cat Royal is a foundling, found on the steps of a London theatre, and is raised by the resident thespian community. Suffice to say I suppose, such an upbringing means Cat grows up quickly, learns to cuss from early on, but also develops great maturity and bravery, and is witty and fun to be with. Her tales are tales of the age - Georgian, a great time for theatre of course, for angels like Sheridan and his ilk (these feature in the tales) and for war, whether against France, or a civil war in France.
How these books are not more well known than they are I will never know, but if ebook versions are the thing, then, great, bag a Cat Royal book, neither you nor the kids will regret it.
