A lock on your door does not keep the thief out. It merely keeps the honest person out. Nobody advertises that removing DRM is legal. Most people just assume that and think they do something criminal or unethical and won't do it. Lockpicking is illegal if you intend to break into something you are not allowed access to in the first place. Lockpicking your own door if you forgot your key is perfectly legal - they even have lockpicking services if you can't do it yourself.
