As for the dictionary lookup, I found that sometimes when I long-press a word whose entry does exist in the dictionary, the pop-up says that no entry was found. When I press the pop-up to open the dictionary and press a backspace or two, then the word entry appears in the dictionary lookup results. This just happened to me with "alliterative" with the default dictionary (New Oxford American). In this case, opening the dictionary and pressing the backspace once didn't work, but backspacing twice worked. Maybe this is a fault in the dictionary app, the data index, or something...
