I accidentally dropped my old 500 in the Sony case on ceramic tile. It broke the housing of the ereader but was still functional. Sony gave me the full $100 trade-in value to put towards my 505 (special promotion at the time).

I have dropped my T1 in the Sony case on carpet (accidentally feel asleep on the couch while I was reading). OK, I might have done this 2 or 3 times... It was fine.

Really it's case-by-case. How far did you drop it? Where was the point of impact? How hard or soft was the floor?
