It's the SCREEN that you need to protect. The corners will look after themselves .

I know you say you don't like it, but I have practical proof of the excellence of the protection of the Amazon leather cover. I (stupidly) put my Kindle down on the sloping, chest-high parapet of a bridge while taking a photograph. It slid off, fell 5 feet onto a concrete pavement, landed on edge, and bounced. The impact knocked a piece out of the plastic of the edge of the bezel, but the case absorbed the energy of the impact, and the screen was undamaged.
