PA is the state with the most covered bridges. Over 200 of 'em. But there are only 29 of them in Lancaster County, which has the most in the state. There is another county in a different state that has more.

Personally, having lived there for 25 years, I always thought so too, which is what prompted this particular theme for a motorcycle ride. But the reality is that Vermont is quite far down on the list of 'totals.' It does rise to the top on the list of 'most covered bridges per square mile...'
Unfortunately, several of Vermont's bridges were either totally demolished, washed away, or suffered severe structural damage in this past summer's flooding.

A VERY good movie around covered bridges. "The Bridges of Madison County" staring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep. It's a beautifully moving love story between a photographer who comes to shoot the bridges and a local housewife. But Madison County isn't the location of the most covered bridges.
