- In the bus or the metro in Paris it will be stolen in a few days.

Actually I am quite nervous about the last issue with the kindle fire because of the glossy and "high tech" design wich might inspire jealousy (even if it is not that expensive).
I am especially worried about the "multimedia" capabilities, ereader are not attractive for non "professional" thieves (most of them don't read if they even know how) but looking videos is clearly an aspect that can make them think about it.

I am not earning a lot of money because I am a student and replacing the device is not an option.

But I didn't find any other 6 to 7 inches alternative yet. So I am getting it.
And I found the kindle ereader very fragile and the kindle fire seems, as many android tablets do, to be more stiffer.

I just hope eye stain won't be an issue for me...

@Speckbo : Maybe you should have open a new topic, don't you think ?
Tablets also weigh a lot more. If I MUST read a PDF, I'll read it on my Nook Color, but eyestrain is an issue and it weighs nearly a pound while the T1 weighs less than 6 oz. The Kindle Fire is the same size and I would guess about the same weight. An iPad weighs even more. Not easy to hold in one hand for long periods.

It sounds as though the perfect device for you does not exist yet. You'll either have to wait or compromise.
