I have never owned or used a digital reader. I am thinking about getting one, to take advantage of all the features. My requirements are:
- Availability of lots of books, both paid-for and free.
- Small and light device.
- Good readability everywhere.
- Access to old or out-of-print books (specially from Amazon).
Judging from the majority (for instance, searching Google for "digital reader"), it would seem that I should get a Kindle; on the other hand, I just read the Calibre FAQ and saw a recommendation for SONY readers (because they handle collections). So, I would like to get some advice from those who know better:
- Which device (Kindle, SONY, other) would you say best matches my requirements?
- Which specific model would you recommend?
- In particular, the Kindle Touch looks like a great bargain at $100. Are there any caveats I should be aware of? If I go with this device, can I get rid of the "Special Offers" included in it?
- In order to use Calibre, will I need to jailbreak my device?
- If I do jailbreak my device, will I still be able to buy books from the original provider?
Thanks in advance for any wisdom shared and best regards.
