I agree that it seems "stupid" but I'm sure there is someone with publishing experience who can possibly explain the value of it when someone actually sets up the file with px margins instead of em. The problem is the way it is set up oftentimes doesn't work with this particular device with a 7" screen. It probably works fine on a larger laptop or tablet screen. The Nook menu seems to imply that I can set the margins and line spacing the way I want, but ultimately it doesn't allow me override it.
Your suggestion to deDRM it and remove the offending file will work, but not every user is going to be able to do this. Beyond the technical hurdle for some is the legal fears. I don't completely understand the legal side and the concept of fair use completely, but this is a perfect example of another problem with DRM. The publisher sets the margins in a way that are completely unacceptable, the reader software doesn't allow an override, and the person reading it is stuck with a book that requires a page turn every second at a font size that is comfortable to read.
