Peter Robinson 's Inspector Banks.

Starting to re-read the excellent Inspector Banks detective/police procedural series by Peter Robinson.
I recommend them highly - very well written, totally believable intelligent crime writing .Excellent curl up on the sofa stuff.
Can be read stand alone, but better in order.
