There's an additional problem with factory reset, and that's the reason it pisses me off that it's the standard recommendation: Adobe id. Anytime you do a factory reset you have to reauthorize the device, so another id and it can be a problem. And yes, perhaps it's a collateral effect of DRM, but at the end it's a Kobo fault that you have to do a factory reset because they're not able to keep the device in good conditions.
And please, no more excuses about corrupted databases or something like that. I work in software development and this is the easy route for developers when they don't know why it happens or they don't have time to develop a right way to correct things.
